Successful completion of a Recreational Pilot Permit allows a pilot to fly any single engine airplane certified to carry four passengers where there is no more than one passenger on board. Recreational pilots are also permitted to fly ultra light aircraft. This type of permit is ideal for persons who are interested in engaging in casual flying on a relatively frequent basis but within limited vincinities of their own airports. While there is no formal requirement to attend the private pilot ground school course, it is highly recommended to ensure that every pilot is well informed on basic aviation theory and procedures.
The prerequisites for a recreational pilot permit as prescribed by Transport Canada are as follows:

Ground School (Optional)
A minimum of 40 hours ground instruction is required. The private pilot ground school course is normally held on Wednesday evenings for 3 hours from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Please check with our staff however to confirm course availability and timings.
Flight Training
A minimum of twenty five (25) hours consisting of:

Graduation Privilages of the Recreational Permit Holder
The recreational pilot permit entitles the holder to fly any single-engine piston powered non-high performance aircraft with a maximum of one passenger on board. The aircraft may have no more than four seats. This permit does not allow for additional endorsements such as instrument, night, or floats. All training completed toward this permit may be credited toward a private pilot licence. Flights are only allowed during daylight hours under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) and are restricted within Canada.
